The Call

I don't know when the craving started or when it became essential. I only know that it went from a grinding 'should' to a longing 'must'. This thing that calls so many of us outside and magnetically pulls us towards tides and vistas.

My first gasp was at the curve in the road that led to First Beach at La Push. I've chased the high since and I jones for it in between. It is my escape and my reward.

I've seen so much of the coast since it caught me, but that corner of the Peninsula has my heart and second home. The image above is from Second Beach on a separate night.

The Quileute Reservation is closed right now, as it should be. The gifts I've received there are boundless.

We'll roll back in one day, just like the tides. All of us helpless against the call. Seeking peace and awe in equal measure.
