Creativity

Creativity is that fish hook looped into my soul, surprising me with every tug on the line.

Every day I wake up empty and expectant; on the edge of my seat for new insights that begin to sprinkle in from ‘not me’ during my morning ritual. Every once in a while the gates will open early and find me running to my laptop chanting the words that just descended until I can get them down. I always imagine them laughing at me when I fail and forget before it becomes vapor.

When we’re all ready, I get quiet, and then I get out of the way. I often, like today, find myself writing about something unexpected so I get to be delighted as the new idea unfolds. Don’t get me wrong, I always try and over-help, but I can always tell when I’ve lost the connection because the gears start to grind in a four inch area just above my solar plexus. I take a deep breath, apologize for interrupting, and begin again. The more they trust me the cooler things I get to write.

This is worth getting up early for isn’t it? To think, someone’s eyes will see your art. Their ears will hear your words. Perspectives will be changed from your insight or images.Someone needs what you have to offer, even if it’s only you, and you get to be the vehicle that delivers it. What an extraordinary gift!

St. Therese, in her memoir Story of a Soul, tells us we should accept a gift in the same spirit that it was offered. The gift of creativity is abundant and endless and is offered in a flood. Nothing is more important than an idea. There is no more generous gift from the universe. It only demands you receive it in the spirit that it was offered and then give it away again with the same energy.

Flood the world. We’re waiting..
